The Power of a Purpose with Andy Stanley

When this post goes live, we will be less than 24 hours away from Leadercast 2023: Human Intelligence.

In May 2022, we announced Human Intelligence as the theme for this year. When we did, we knew human relationships and emotional intelligence were essential for effective leadership. We knew our best leaders had put us first, kept us focused, challenged us to improve, encouraged us when we felt dismayed, and acknowledged our lives beyond our jobs. And we wanted to see more of that in the world!

After all, leadership is always about humans helping humans. It’s about building trust, treating one another well, building bridges through communication, and accomplishing dreams and visions together. It’s about appropriately using tools and tactics for the greater good.

Once again, Andy Stanley will lead off the day. While I don’t know the exact details of his talk for this year, I know Andy ALWAYS delivers.

For example, over the years of seeing Andy live and in his Leadercast NOW videos, here’s what we’ve learned from Andy about Purpose:

1. Purpose is the why of your organization and it is never accomplished; it is the driving force that organizations use to help make the world a better place.

2. Leaders must function from purpose. Why you do what you do matters more than what you do.

3. People who are intentionally fueled by purpose are free to do what they do best.

4. Leaders who lose their why often lose their motivation.

5. Being powered by purpose can take a leader and her organization through many changes and challenges.

6. Understanding and embracing your WHY allows you to change tactics when they no longer work.

When Andy leaves the stage at 9:40 am, everyone will have two or three insights that will have made the day worthwhile, and we will just be getting started.
