Everyone has at some point set a goal they never ended up achieving. Alex Hailstock—entrepreneur, fitness authority and personal development mentor—explains why discipline is so incredibly necessary in reaching all of the goals you set.

“Discipline knows no section of your life,” shares Alex. “If you're applying discipline to your nutrition, you're going to have discipline at work, you're going to have discipline in your fitness. Because your discipline is not sectionalized, your life will be transformed and your life will become more disciplined [as a whole].”

Watch the video to learn more from Alex about being disciplined, and how to reverse-engineer your goals in order to be successful.

So discipline can come incrementally but we all start at different levels and so what you want to do is implement one thing, focus on one aspect per day or per week or even per month to focus on and master. Because once you master that you can move on to the next level of discipline, and then also discipline knows no section of your life. So your whole entire life will transform because of your discipline. So if you're applying discipline to your nutrition, well you're going to have discipline at work, you're going to have discipline in your fitness. Just because your discipline is not sectionalized, your life will be transformed and your life will become more disciplined.

If you're looking to become more disciplined in your life, reverse engineer your plan for discipline. So what I mean by that is, where do you want to be? So where do you want to be in five months? In five years? In 10 years and work your plan backwards. So if your goal, let's just use a physical goal. If your goal is to look better, have more endurance and energy and more vitality, how does that look like? How does that look? You're going to want to work on your nutrition first, then focus on let's go to the gym at least twice a week, let's do 30 minutes of cardio. Start there and incrementally build up. Once you have those habits built in you can have longer sessions, more intense sessions.

But my real focus is reverse engineering your goals for success. Where do I want to be and the how do I develop a roadmap that leads to my outcome? So to see that most benefit in your success and your discipline, surround yourself with likeminded people that you want to be like and want to aspire to be like, that motivate you and keep you going. And so, I call it your circle of influence or your peer group. So if your peer group does not reflect what you see as important in life, beneficial, that you want to aspire to, it's time to upgrade your peer group and surround yourself with people who are like-minded and on the same path as you.
