Leadercast’s David Horsager on Trust

David Horsager, CEO of Trust Edge Leadership Institute, learned about the value of trust at a young age. He grew up on a Minnesota bean farm and every day he rode the school bus, he passed by Mr. Olsen’s Veggie Stand. It featured a selection of produce alongside a bucket of cash that sat outside unguarded. The stand operated on the honor system—customers picked what they wanted, made their own change and left the money they owed in the bucket. No one worked the stand, and yet, as a young David observed, customers were loyal to it. The reason was, in part, the result of one of the most critical traits found in leadership: trust.

Every good relationship is rooted in trust—and the same goes for leadership. “Trust is the single uniqueness of the greatest leaders and organizations of all time,” shared David in a 2015 speech at the University of Minnesota. Without trust, teams are less engaged, less productive and less satisfied in the work they do. Without trust, employees lack commitment. Without trust, leaders have an impossible time getting anyone to follow them.

Trust is everything. That’s why at Leadercast 2022—The One Thing, taking place May 4 at PromoWest Pavilion at OVATION in Newport, Kentucky, David will discuss trust as the one thing you need to be great in your leadership. He will share the stage with nine fellow leaders all answering the same question: “What is the one thing that makes a leader worth following?”

David’s curiosity about trust has grown well past his childhood on the Minnesota bean farm. He spent years studying trust and its impact on business. Today, he is responsible for inventing “The Enterprise Trust Index,” and is the director of one of the nation’s most well-known trust studies, “The Trust Outlook.” His work has been featured in publications such as Fast Company, Forbes, the Huffington Post and The Wall Street Journal. He has advised leaders and delivered presentations around the globe, with audiences ranging everywhere from FedEx, Toyota and the New York Yankees, to global governments and the Department of Homeland Security.

Do your team members trust you? Are you establishing a culture of mutual trust? Imagine if you could be a person who is trusted by everybody, every time. Learn how by joining us at Leadercast 2022—The One Thing. Attend live on May 4 in Newport, Kentucky (conveniently located minutes from downtown Cincinnati, Ohio), or virtually at select locations around the globe.
