Meet Leadercast Women’s Laura Vanderkam
Leave it to a mother of four to figure out if work-life balance is actually possible. Laura Vanderkam, author, writer and speaker, wondered if she had enough time in the day to manage her career, family and the things that made her happy.
So she began logging her hours each week—168 hours to be exact—to understand how she was devoting her time. She detailed her findings in her first book, 168 Hours, and realized that most people spend too much time stressing about work and underestimate the amount of downtime they have.
Laura has continued on to write more books related to time management and work-life balance, including her most recent I Know How She Does It and What the Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast. She also writes regular articles for several publications including Fast Company, Fortune and USA Today, and shares her expertise on productivity as a keynote speaker—all while managing her home life.
Can you really have it all? Laura says you can.
“Instead of saying ‘I don’t have time’ try saying ‘it’s not a priority.’ … Changing our language reminds us that time is a choice. If we don’t like how we’re spending an hour, we can choose differently.” — Laura Vanderkam
